April A.D. 2024 || Week 4

Whew, a full and emotional week. The end of our wonderful visit with family then hosting Bible study, appointments, etc. etc. + the last week of Friday school before summer break (our Friday school basically covers the material you would in a regular Sunday school program -- Bible stories & memory work, etc; it just doesn't work for our church to do it before worship on Sunday). I tried to keep regular studies going and we did pretty well on most things, but definitely looking forward to getting into doing more regular math in the coming weeks. And there's tons of garden work. In the broader landscape, the yellow Scotch broom and dandelions and purple lupine and lavender-brushy-shrubs-that-I-have-yet-to-identify xD are spreading and racing away everywhere, and looking gorgeous.

I was first introduced to dogwoods in the mid-west and (while they're always iconic), I've never really been tempted to add one to our garden. But these ones around town are giving me a serious rethink. The blossoms are smaller and look so much like little fairy-petally-butterflies. Thinking of adding one to the cabin lawn over by our Prairie Fire crabapple...

Created an account on inaturalist and uploaded our wasp picture. Pretty sure it's a western yellow jacket, but the triangle markings are just so defined!

Did a whole bunch of discussion and 'find the flag and country' game on our continent mats (HIGHLY recommend these ones from Amazon! Getting all ten isn't cheap, but the laminate + detailing is excellent & they've been a great hit. Geography Place Mats)
